Jeremy Blake & Theresa Duncan

05 januari 2010

Photo of Theresa by Joshua Jordan – Photo of Jeremy by Donald Graham

Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan, who shared an uncommonly close bond.
Theresa Duncan took her own life, followed a week later by her boyfriend, Jeremy  Blake.

Blake, an art-world star acclaimed for his lush and moody “moving paintings,” shape-shifting innovations mixing abstract painting and digital film, had ended his life on the night of July 17, 2007, walking into the Atlantic Ocean off Rockaway Beach, Queens, never to return. “I am going to join the lovely Theresa,” Blake, 35, had written on the back of a business card, which he left on the beach, along with his clothes.

“The lovely Theresa” was Theresa Duncan, a writer, filmmaker, computer-game creator, and Blake’s girlfriend of 12 years. He had found her lifeless body on July 10, 2007, in the rectory of St. Mark’s Church in Manhattan’s East Village, where the couple had been renting an apartment. There was a bowl full of Benadryl pills, a bottle of Tylenol PM, and a champagne glass on the nightstand. There was a note saying,  “I love all of you.” Duncan was 40. The last post on her blog, “The Wit of the Staircase,” was a quote from author Reynolds Price about the human need for storytelling and the impossibility of surviving in silence. Source: Vanity Fair

Songkran is the name of the New Year in Thailand. It occurs in the month of April and lasts for three days as per the Gregorian Calendar. New Year celebrations begin with cleaning of house. People perform various traditions and rituals to welcome the New Year. A most important tradition is to throw water on each other. This is done to purify the souls. Reversible Dotty Handbag

”It’s original purpose was to be a duvet cover but I think it’s better as a summertime, reversible handbag. Don’t you agree?”

Frauwerks make bags and other stuff from recycled material. I like this bag, very much! How hard can it be, like? Maybe I should buy me an old sewing machine somewhere … and a hippiebus :)

Peace, LOVE & wholemeal bread!

A love story

”These hearts were painted by my girlfriend and I in Coimbra, Portugal a couple of years back. She is from Coimbra and I am from Chicago and we’ve been able to maintain a long distance relationship for the past 2.5 years. Since then, we continue to paint some of these hearts every time we are together in Coimbra. What is interesting about Portugal’s Calçada (sidewalk), is that you can take a combination of a minimum of three stones and find the shape of an abstract heart form. The heart can grow by adding more stones to the original three.”

Welcome to my saloon!

I love the old saloons that always appear in cowboy films. There are no closed doors at the saloons just swingdoors, absolutely wonderful! I illustrated my own pink saloon, of course, with swingdoors!

I know.
I have too many prejudices about others.
I’m trying to remind me of it while I cut off their heads …
… but it’s not easy.

Think of all the colors that exist!?
Imagine, there may be as many colors as there are
people on the planet…
Who knows. They are in all cases, wonderful!
